| en_US |
dc.description.edition | The harmful effects of decreased body balance and functional capacity are associated with the aging process, directly affecting the life of the elderly population, which is more exposed to the risk of falls and functional independence. Objective: To verify the correlation between the body balance and the functional capacity of elderly residents in the community. Method: The study was performed with 74 elderly individuals. Participants were selected from groups of elderly cohabitation of the Secretary of Sport, Leisure and Tourism and Association of Retirees, Pensioners and Elderly of Lavras and region, in the city of Lavras-MG. Results: Barthel score and TUG scores were -0.654 (p <0.01), indicating a significant negative correlation between the two indices, and the longer the TUG equilibrium), the lower the Barthel score (the greater the dependence of the individual). Conclusion: The results found in this study showed that there was a statistically significant correlation between the TUG and Barthel scores, of course, the longer the TUG time, the older the patient presented the lower balance, the reduced functional capacity and the greater degree of dependence. | en_US |
